On Tuesday, September 23, a Nigerian young man aged 22 has
been dragged to a Dubai Criminal Court for breaking into a mobile phone shop
and stealing more than Dh127,567 (N5,688,977) worth of memory cards. The unemployed
man confessed to stealing 8,312 memory cards. On September 1, 2014, the owner of the mobile shop, a
51-year-old Iranian, called police after discovering that the main door was
broken.
The owner of the shop said, “It was 9am. I checked the items
inside and found that 8,312 memory cards of different capacities, worth
Dh127,567 (N5,688,977) were stolen. I checked the cameras I had in the shop and
saw an African man carrying out the robbery at exactly 4.53am.”
During the course of investigation, police discovered that
the defendant had already been detained in relation to a separate robbery. He
was questioned and confessed to stealing the cards with the help of another
man, who remains at large.
A verdict for the case is expected to be given on 28 October.
