Emir of Kano, Sanusi dethrones village head for getting high on Drugs

Sanusis

On Thursday, 11 September, during the burning of illicit drugs worth N300m by the Kano State government, the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, disclosed that a village head in the state had been dethroned for using illicit dr'ugs.

He said, “We have deposed a village head who was found consuming illicit drugs. We took the decision because as a traditional ruler, he should be a role model to others and not to be promoting ills in the society.”
The Emir, however, failed to reveal the name of the deposed village head, but added that any traditional ruler or district head found guilty of ‘criminal acts’ would be similarly deposed.
“We are urging the state government to take similar measures against government officials who are in the habit of consuming drugs, because leaders are supposed to be role models and not the other way round.”
“We are advocating the enactment of laws that would protect the rights of women including right to education. We are in a situation where divorce cases have became so rampant that they are threatening family institution. Laws that would recommend stiffer penalty for anybody who divorces his wife without any genuine reason should be put in place,” he added.
This is not the first time a village head would be deposed in the state. In August, the Emir had also dethroned the village head of Mumai in Kunci Local Government Area over drug abuse and other related offences.
