Three out eight men who gang raped a young lady have been arrested by the Kwara state police command, Punch reports.
The names of the three suspects were given as Kadri Rafiu, Sikiru Jimoh and Mustapha Nasiru.
According to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salihu Garba who paraded the suspects on Wednesday, October 15, the police were trailing the other five who are on the run.
“On Wednesday at about 2pm one (name withheld) of Ilorin was gang ra'ped by eight boys. In the cause of investigation, three of the suspects were arrested and we are on the trail of the remaining suspects,” he said.
He disclosed that no fewer than 12 people had been arrested for various crimes like criminal conspiracy and illegal possession of firearms; criminal conspiracy and armed robbery; illegal possession of firearms; criminal conspiracy and being in possession of stolen vehicle; criminal conspiracy, being member of secret cult and being in possession of criminal charms; theft of vehicle and theft.
He therefore warned residents of the state to desist from unwholesome conducts, while also appealing to parents and guardians to watch over their children, wards or dependents.
He called on them to provide the police with useful information in order to ensure a more free and safe society.
In a related development, the security chiefs in the state had canvassed the mop up of arms in private hands so as to stop violence and other criminal activities in the state especially during the elections.
Speaking in an inter-agency consultative committee summit which involved all the security agencies in the state, the security chiefs promised to remain professional and also ensure credible and transparent elections in 2015.
Garba said, “Let me use this opportunity to sound a note of warning to would be law breakers of our resolve not to hesitate to deal with any electoral offended comprehensively according to the laws of the land
“To this end, I want to reiterate for emphasis, that we are security agents and not politicians. We are prepared to create a level playing ground for all the parties as long as the game is played according to its rules.”
