If you’re worried that your unhealthy lifestyle might put you in an
early grave, then this new watch – dubbed the death watch – will happily
do the worrying for you.The Tikker watch, the brainchild of Swedish
inventor Fredrik Colting, uses information on the wearer’s lifestyle to
calculate their life expectancy and then, if you like, it will count
down to your death. Cheery.

Actually, Colting thinks it is. He calls his design ‘The Happiness Watch’ and says it’s designed to help people make the most of their life and pack as much in during the time they have left.
To set the watch up, users are asked questions about their lifestyle, including medical history, whether they smoke or drink, and whether there is any history of medical conditions such as cancer and diabetes, in the family.
Then, you add in details on how much exercise you do and your weight and the watch generates a score. That score’s then subtracted from your age to calculate the, erm, death date. Tikker, which incidentally also works as a normal watch, will then start a countdown to that fateful day.
After raising a whopping $98,665 on Kickstarter to produce the watch, Colting’s now selling it online through Firebox for just £49.99.
Colting explains that the real purpose of the device is to encourage people to make every second count: ‘Remember, it’s really not about how much time you have, it’s what you do with it,’ he says.
Erm, we think we might stick with the Apple Watch, thanks.
